Marking 10 years at Louis Vuitton, Nicolas Ghesquière has debuted his Pre-Fall collection in a unique Shanghai setting.
The Voyager show brings back designs from early in Ghesquière’s career, bringing back pops of orange, plenty of leather and geometric silhouettes.
The collection diverged from any singular theme, offering brightly coloured florals alongside sporty stripes and bondage buckles.
“Short confronts long. At times they unite, conjoining refinement and audacity. Oppositional prints make for happy marriages. Classicism goes tangential, giving outfits a charming zeal,” the Maison explains.
In addition to throwback elements of the French Fashion House, the pre-Fall collection debuted playful designs in a nod to China’s youth. Louis Vuitton collaborated with contemporary artist Sun Yitian to create a series of prints featuring imagery of inflatable animals.
The show was attended by several of LV’s front row regulars, including Australian Cate Blanchett, as well as Regina King, Jennifer Connelly, Paul Bettany, Liu Yifei, Zhou Dongyu, Jackson Wang, Hoyeon, Victoria Song, Chloë Grace Moretz, Elaine Zhong, Ouyang Nana, Jin Chen, Marina Foïs, Zhuang Dafei, Xu Minghao, Amber Liu, Guo Keyu, Zhao Lina, Du Juan, Anna Wang and others.
The Prefall 2024 collection was presented at the Long Museum, which was founded by husband-and-wife collectors Mr. Liu Yiqian and Ms. Wang Wei, and is named for its elongated funnel shape. The largest private museum in China, it holds the country’s richest collection, including traditional, modern and contemporary Chinese art, Chinese revolutionary art, and contemporary works from Asia, Europe and the United States.
