Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia has been and gone for another year leaving us with a fashion wish-list longer than Camilla’s finale show runway.
Below, Jess Gomes, who sat front and centre at all of the biggest shows, reveals how she decides on her outfits, the Aussie actress she looks to for style inspiration, and the three things she wants to buy straight off the runway.
Ahead of events like fashion week, what’s the process you go through when picking outfits?
I work with my stylist Dale McKie and David Jones to put together some amazing outfits. We try and seek out some amazing pieces from the designers and shows I am attending. We usually try on a couple of options until we find ‘the one’, then we finish by finding amazing shoes, bags and accessories to finish off the outfit!
What’s your favourite outfit that you’ve worn so far?
The Camilla and Marc khaki green suit from their new resort collection was definitely my favourite outfit the week. I loved the combination of tailoring and slouch in the jacket – it made me feel comfortable and strong!
What’s the one item you can’t get enough of at the moment?
My new graffiti Balenciaga bag from David Jones.
Who do you look to for style inspiration?
Margot Robbie! She’s classic and timeless, but maintains her relaxed Australian nature and often wear great local designers.
What are your favourite Australian labels?
That’s a tough one. Being a David Jones ambassador, I am lucky to wear a lot of amazing Australian labels. My go-to designers are Camilla and Marc, Christopher Esber and Hansen and Gretel.
Which show has been a stand-out so far?
The opening Camilla and Marc show was amazing. I loved the unique set and the collection was incredible. It was great to be able to celebrate their 15th birthday with them.
What three things do you want to add to your wardrobe after seeing the street style and shows this season?
I need to add the knitted white Christopher Esber dress from the show to my wardrobe, along with the check shoulder pad blazer from Camilla & Marc and the Balenciaga logo handbag.
Which item wouldn’t you leave home without during MBFWA?
My phone to capture all of the standout moments from MBFWA. It’s great to be able to share these experiences with my followers!
What are your handbag essentials?
Equal Beauty Super Mist Spray, Chanel lipstick and a moisturising lip balm from Lanolips.
