Is there anything Rihanna can’t do? We think not, and recent news that the singer is about to launch a luxury fashion house just proves it.
According to multiple sources at WWD, French luxury conglomerate LVMH (Louis Vuitton Möet Hennessy) has been in talks with the Barbados-born singer to release a fashion house under Rihanna’s name.
As per WWD, the company are already handpicking Rihanna’s team from their existing cache, which includes Celine, Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs. Rihanna will also bring her own people to the vision, who will all work closely with the star to ensure all is RiRi-approved. Although we don’t know for sure what that vision will look like, Rihanna recently stepped out in a pair of oversized sunglasses with the Fenty branding emblazoned over the top, a rumoured prototype which gets us very, very excited for some Rihanna-approved eyewear.
The rumours, despite being extraordinarily exciting for fans of Fenty, is a particularly poignant move for the industry, especially for LVMH, who haven’t launched a brand new label since the 80s, when they started Christian Lacroix.
Rihanna has had a hugely successful past few years, launching Fenty Beauty and virtually breaking the internet thanks to its inclusive 40-shade range. She has also collaborated with Puma, to much success (who doesn’t own a Puma shoe now?), and pulled yet another inclusivity move with the launch of her own lingerie line, Savage x Fenty, which garnered a lot of love when it debuted at New York Fashion Week in 2018.
Although nothing is confirmed, if Rihanna does launch a luxury fashion house, you can expect us to buy everything — because, honestly, this is Rihanna’s world and we’re just living in it. Praise be!
