Despite the struggles created by the pandemic, 2021 has still been an incredible year for fashion. With old trends like Y2K making a resurgence and the reintroduction of new trends, from the red carpet to the runway, there’s been no shortage of inspiration to prove that creativity can well and truly flourish, even in the darkest of places.
One thing we’ve really enjoyed seeing more of has been an explosion of colour. While our black and white staples are perfect for creating a capsule wardrobe, we all love those statement pieces that really make you stop and take note. It makes sense then, that Pantone has named the 2022 colour of the year as ‘Very Peri’ — a unique colour that the brand has created, which sees a “dynamic periwinkle blue hue mix with a vivifying violet red undertone.”
According to the brands official release, the striking hue blends “the faithfulness and constancy of blue with the energy and excitement of red,” and is set to be everywhere in 2022 from social media and street style to the runways and red carpet events.
And, while it’s set to be the big colour of next year, we’ve actually seen it already from high fashion runway shows to the A-list style set. Read on for a roundup of all the celebrities and fashion labels who have nailed the colour trend already, including the best pieces to help you incorporate the hue into your own look.
On the red carpet
Lady Gaga’s show-stopping moment at the House Of Gucci premiere in London, where she of course, wore a stunning Gucci dress will be forever ingrained in our minds, and is a perfect demonstration of the ‘very peri’ aesthetic. The likes of Camila Cabello and Anya Taylor-Joy have also debuted the colour, at prestigious A-list events including the Met Gala and the CFDA Fashion Awards.
On the runway
When it comes to high fashion, we’ve seen the ‘very peri’ hue take centre stage in a variety of ’21 and ’22 collections, with brands like Valentino and Tracy Chu creating a line-up of garments in the striking shade.
