While You Were At The Beach, This Happened At NYFW

Six things you need to know now

1.It was ridiculously cold

Like, minus 6. On Friday there was 10-inches of snow on the ground in some neighbourhoods, and even when the streets were clear, they were still toe-curlingly chilly. This proved a wardrobe challenge: how to look chic in snow boots and a doona coat? Luckily the sorts of people who sit front row are the sorts of people who have limo services. Aussie It-girl Sarah Ellen wore sandals to Dion Lee – that girl ain’t getting the subway.

2. It’s still all about Kendall Jenner

She has new shorter hair! She walked for lingerie brand La Perla, which is now making gowns, and her dress was super revealing. She then, reports US Weekly, “stepped out” with rapper A$AP Rocky to nightclub 1 Oak. There are romance rumours. She was seen with him in Paris in January. Then again, everybody went to 1 Oak; it was a fashion week party, doh. Anyway, whatever Kendall does is news. #trendingnow

3 Dion Lee got all touchy feely

We once called him the Australian body con king, but Dion Lee has been moving away from figure hugging silhouettes for a while now. His A/W’17 show at New York’s Skylight Clarkson Square venue made a strong case for the covered up. He presented fluffy sweaters with cuffs dipping below the finger tips, voluminous tailoring and outsized shearling coats in Sesame St. orange. His his giant electric blue velvet puffa coat was a standout. Hurry up winter.

4 Ulla Johnson proved herself a name to know

What do you mean you’ve never heard of her? Time to fix that. The Brooklyn-based designer is newly stocked by Net-A-Porter and winning a serous following for her easy-to-wear, thoughtfully made take on modern boho. Think a cross between Chloé & Isabel Marant. Her A/W’17 runway was big on velvet, ruffles, silver lamé and knobbly knits. We approve.

5. Victoria Beckham makes the clothes you wish you could afford

Effortless. Understated. Just beautiful. If only they weren’t so expensive. *considers selling car

6.Alexander Wang is Mr Popular

Heaps of cool people came to his show in an old Broadway theatre on Saturday night. Brooklyn Beckham was there. Ditto Zoe Kravitz (who stars in his latest campaign). Sofia Richie wore a black crop top and a green dressing gown. Tenya Taylor wore her nightie. Some bloke called Tyga looked fetching in yellow. I just Googled “Who is Tyga?” I’m getting old.
