The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) are largely regarded as music’s night of nights, as artists from across the globe gather to commemorate the year’s biggest hits. But in addition to celebrating these musial accomplishments, the awards show has also become synonymous with some serious sartorial slays — and for good reason.

With a slightly more relaxed dress code than other ceremonies of its kind, the VMAs has earnt a reputation for edgier, more risque red carpet get-ups — and this year is no exception. From Cahppell Roan’s medieval-inspired cloak and sword, to Sabrina Carpenter’s vintage Bob Mackie look (borrowed from Maddona, no less), we’re rounding up the best red carpet moments from the MTV VMas in 2024. Scroll down for more.

For her VMAs debut, breakout star Chappell Roan pulled out all the stops, in a medieval inspired sheer gown and velvet cloak — complete with an actual sword, of course.

Sabrina Carpenter

She might only be 5 foot, but Sabrina Carpenter knows how to make an impact on the red carpet. Tonight, she’s wearing a vitnage glimmering Bob Mackie gown — which was last worn by Madonna at the 1991 Oscars.
