Ask any astronaut and they’ll agree: the sight of the earth from outer space is nothing short of breathtaking. “When I first looked back at the Earth, standing on the moon, I cried,” said Alan Shepard, the fifth man in history to walk on the moon. But of course, most of us will never have quite that depth of perspective.

While it’s easy to get caught up in the rush and pressure of daily life, Swatch’s new Bioceramic MoonSwatch collection brings a touch of that galactic wonder to their timepieces. The three new Swatch models are inspired by the beauty of the Blue Planet, taking their cues from natural phenomena which can be seen from space.

The Bioceramic MoonSwatch Mission On Earth – Lava pays homage to the fiery intensity of volcanoes, with its earthy, red-orange features and orange chronograph hand. Mission On Earth – Polar Lights draws inspiration from the luminous dance of the Aurora Borealis, including turquoise accents and a silver star-studded dial.

Mission On Earth – Desert is a sand-hued design bringing to mind the swathes of desert covering the planet’s surface.

It’s fitting that the collection gives a nod to the original OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch, the first watch to go to the moon. Many of its features are reimagined in this collection, including the asymmetrical case, the renowned tachymeter scale with the dot over 90, and the typical Speedmaster subdials.

Made from Swatch’s patented Bioceramic, each MoonSwatch is a unique mix of two-thirds ceramic – used in high-end watchmaking – and one-third biosourced materials. They may not quite fly you to the moon, but looking down at one of these glowing faces might just remind you to take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the world around you.
