Milan Fashion Week autumn/winter 2021 may be almost over, but the runway trends that are coming out of it are just commencing their reign.
Offering the kind of longevity our wardrobes both require and desire as we become more conscious of sustainability, the week’s shows gave us garments that will surpass a mere season and transcend occasions, with the notion of day and evening wear becoming more gloriously blurred than ever before.
From Prada to Fendi, Max Mara and more, below the five biggest trends to come out of Milan Fashion Week’s autumn/winter ’21 shows.
Statement Suiting
Be they blazers dripping in fringe paired with slouchy trousers, or belted ‘drazers’ overlaid upon gauzy stockings, this season’s suit very much came to play, elevating the classic item with fresh details and unexpected cuts to make a statement.

Cushioned Comfort
While we’re certainly more inclined to dress up in 2021 than we were last year, MFW proved we can do so in maximum comfort, if we take our cue from the plush puffers and quilted coats seen at Tod’s, Max Mara and Brunello Cucinelli.

The New Preppy
Fusing American letterman iconography with British sensibilities and a bohemian flair, the New Preppy was in full force at MFW. Spotted in the form of striped skirts, stomping boots, longline check blazers, heeled loafers and pops of paisley, it’s enough to make you want to go back to school.

Wrapped In Silk
Seen in the collections of Fendi, JW Anderson and Sportmax, body-skimming slips and jumpsuits are one of the season’s biggest trends, bringing a relaxed sensuality that can be elevated with statement jewellery or toughened up with biker boots.

A Splash Of Silver
All that glitters is not gold, or at least, not this season, with slivers of silver making its way into the limelight. From futuristic chainmail at Ferragamo, to otherworldly elegance at Giorgio Armani, and a metallic, gypset offering at Etro, there were many silver linings to be found.
