Another year, another Met Gala to watch, unpack every outfit in detail, and enjoy the many memes to come from it. Details about 2022’s upcoming event are now dropping, which means anticipation is already mounting.
Of course, it doesn’t seem all that long since 2021’s Met Gala—and you’d be right in thinking that given it was postponed to September due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now, it’s almost like we’re celebrating two Met Galas in one year, because 2022’s will take place in its rightful May timeline.
Below, everything we know (so far) about this year’s Met Gala, including its theme, date and hosts.
What is the theme of this year’s Met Gala?
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has confirmed that this year’s theme will be ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion’.
Per the event’s official Instagram page, this theme “plays off the last Gala’s theme”, which was “In America: A Lexicon in Fashion.”
The upcoming Gala in May is timed with a two part exhibition which launched its first part last September.
“In all, both themes explore American fashion through the years, and its different influences,” the statement read.
What date will the 2022 Met Gala take place?
This year, the Met Gala will be held on Monday, May 2, which marks only eight months since 2021’s grand event. As always, the grounds of NYC’s Met will be filled with some of the most talked about names across Hollywood, sports and social causes.
Who will host the 2022 Met Gala?
On March 18, the official hosts of the event were announced by the event themselves. For the 2022 costume gala, an array of Hollywood’s most famous names across acting and writing: actress Regina King, actor and writer Lin-Manuel Miranda and married duo Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds will serve as the evening’s official co-chairs.
This group will join last year’s four inspiring young names across entertainment, sport and literature: singer Billie Eilish, actor Timothée Chalamet, tennis pro Naomi Osaka, and poet Amanda Gorman, who hosted the event spectacularly.
VOGUE has also revealed the hosts of the 2022 red carpet live stream. Vanessa Hudgens, VOGUE’s editor at large Hamish Bowles and La La Anthony will be helming the illustrious red carpet, interviewing the stars as they arrive and giving us an exclusive look inside fashion’s biggest night.
Who will attend the 2022 Met Gala?
At this stage, invites are either yet to be delivered, or the guest list is being kept under tight wraps. In fact, the official guest list to the event isn’t usually revealed until the day it takes place.
We can likely expect regular attendees including Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and other famed personalities who are movers and shakers in our world today.
For us, we’re hoping for another golden appearance from our March cover star, Julia Garner, as well as Euphoria‘s Zendaya. We’d also love to see supermodel Iman on the prestigious carpet—if it’s anything like last year we’ll be in for a treat.
