While many designers have come out swinging against incoming First Lady Melania Trump, it seems Dolce & Gabbana are staying out of the sartorial coup.
Melania stepped out in one of the high-end Italian designers looks on New Years Eve, rocking a $3304 LBD to welcome 2017 with her husband, President Elect Donald Trump in Palm Beach, Florida.
Stefano Gabbana took to Instagram to share his pride at seeing the future FLOTUS in their design.
“Melania Trump #DGwoman ❤❤❤❤❤ thank you 🇺🇸 #madeinitaly🇮🇹,” he wrote alongside a picture of the couple.

While a number of fans celebrated photo, many took offense and expressed their disappointment and anger at the designer for dressing the controversial First Lady.
“Dear @stefanogabba – I have been a fan for ages, but I just want to say how truly disappointed I am. The brand that used to stand for something has now disintegrated in front of my eyes. D&G held values dear, which coupled with outstanding designs, topped any other brand,” wrote one user.
“I respect your decision to focus merely on business, but I find such inner ugliness covered by the best money can buy – disturbing to say the least. All the best, and I’m not wearing nything by D&G any more.”
Gabanna responded to a number of the comments, clarifying that Melania purchased the dress herself.

“I like Melania she’s a beautiful woman,” Gabbana replied in the comments section, adding that he “[doesn’t] care” about the backlash and calling critics “ignorant”, according to USA Today.
“If a woman buys a dress in our shop I should throw it out?” he responded to another user in Italian. “Are you crazy?”
The backlash comes after a number of high-profile designers including Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, Derek Lam, Phillip Lim and Sophie Theallet who have spoken out saying they will not dress Melania.
“I have no interest whatsoever in dressing Melania Trump,” said Jacobs. “Personally, I’d rather put my energy into helping out those who will be hurt by [Donald] Trump and his supporters.”
While many designers have remained quiet, a handful of designers have however publicly declared they will support the First Lady including Diane Von Furstenberg and Tommy Hilfiger.
“Any first lady should be respected like any first lady,” Von Furstenberg told USA TODAY. “If you are first lady, you represent America.”
“Any designer should be proud to dress her,” adds Hilfiger.
