At Meghan Markle’s first solo public engagement with the Queen last week, wearing Givenchy no less, royal fans were quick to hone in on her choice of earrings. The stunning diamond and pearl drop earrings looked very similar to one of the Princess of Wales’s favourite pairs – did they once belong to Diana herself?
It wouldn’t be the first time Meghan has paid sartorial tribute to her husband’s late mother.
Eagle-eyed observers have pointed out that Meghan Markle’s chic pink Carolina Herrera dress, worn at Trooping The Colour, was a subtle fashion nod to Diana. The design was very similar to a powder pink ballgown Diana wore in 1987 while visiting the Berlin Opera House. While Diana’s dress was more formal, both dresses are the same shade and have a similar off-the-shoulder neckline and buttons down the front.
She also borrowed “something blue” from her late mother-in-law for her wedding, wearing Diana’s aquamarine cocktail ring by Asprey to her wedding reception at Frogmore House.
However this time, despite the striking resemblance, it has been confirmed that Meghan’s earrings were in fact a gift from the Queen in honour of their first joint engagement together. Nawwww! It’s appears the Queen has a soft spot for Meghan and we’re so here for this new friendship.
