Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have just wrapped up their royal tour of Africa with the couple reuniting for three joint appearances overnight. During the visit to South Africa, Meghan’s second royal tour since marrying into the royal family and her first since welcoming baby Archie Harrison, the 38-year-old had multiple wardrobe changes daily, many of which she used to highlight local brands and to rewear items from her previous tour of Australia and New Zealand.
Though she attended both formal and casual events, at almost every appearance Meghan wore her favourite styles of dress: either a shirt or trench dress, which was usually in a neutral tone and always featured a clinched tie around the waist. She wore six iterations of the style during the 10-day tour, including when she met Nelson Mandela’s widow Graça Machel and when she visited the Auwal Mosque in Cape Town.
The former Suits actress has long relied on the wardrobe staples for royal engagements, likely due to the look being clean and appropriate while still being simple and fuss-free. She wore a white trench dress while introducing Archie to the world in May and wore another mini version by Kiwi designer Maggie Marilyn while visiting New Zealand last October.
Considering she’s been focusing her time in South Africa on issues such as gender-based violence and gender equality in the country, it’s likely the Meghan didn’t want her outfits to detract from the causes she wanted to highlight, either.
One thing’s for sure: we know what we’re buying for our summer workwear wardrobe.
