Meghan Markle is here to prove that the revenge dress walked so the comeback wardrobe could run.
The Duchess stepped out in public for the first time in months over the Easter long weekend as she and husband Prince Harry kicked off the Invictus Games in the Hague, Netherlands. It was a highly anticipated moment, not least because the Sussexes have been in the midst of public royal debate for more than two years after they decided to shed their roles as senior royals. These days, they’re focusing on raising their family (three-year-old Archie and 11-month-old Lilibet), as well as working on their own charitable initiatives.
We have to say, life away from The Firm looks good on Meghan—the Duchess’ first ensemble for the 2022 Invictus Games was a lesson in perfect white-on-white tailoring. Arriving at a welcome reception, Meghan wore a monochrome oversized suit jacket and long flowing pants by Valentino. She added pointed-toe Aquazzura heels and wore her hair long and loose.
The look was reminiscent of some of her earlier ensembles prior to her exit from royal life. Markle’s style was famous for merging the cool, casual Californian aesthetic with regal silhouettes. Her latest suited up style paid homage to that in the best way—just look to the Duchess next time you want to elevate a corporate suit.
For the first day of the games, Meghan followed up with a smart-casual ensemble featuring a YSL collarless tweed blazer, and plain white T and a pair of jeans.
Her hair was slicked back in a ponytail, and she finished the look with a pair of gold-rimmed aviator sunglasses by Linda Farrow.
Later that night, the Duchess attended the opening ceremony alongside Prince Harry in another black and white outfit courtesy of American label, Khaite.
A pair of Manolo Blahnik heels were the cherry on top, not that anyone noticed when the Duke and Duchess proved once and for all that they’ve departed from royal custom—they shared a kiss on stage.
For day two of the Invictus Games, Markle bundled up in a thick white coat by Brandon Maxwell, along with a pair of blue jeans and Manolo Blahnik pumps.
She walked hand-in-hand with her husband as they wandered around the athletics track looking completely at ease.
Hours later, Meghan made a quick change to attend a reception at The Hague. This time, she opted for a stylish white Valentino mini dress featuring long sleeves and a floral design along the shoulders and neckline. She added a pop of colour with bright red lipstick, and she wore her hair long and loose.
After chatting to guests, she posed for a photo alongside husband Prince Harry, who wore a beige suit.
It’s a striking (and happy) change from the last 24 months, which saw the couple’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, their legal battle with The Mail On Sunday for privacy and copyright, and for the most part, staying well away from the public eye where possible.
Perhaps the return of the Invictus Games, which were founded by Prince Harry for returned veterans and injured personel, has proved to be the boost they both needed—Harry’s excitement and passion for the sporting tournament is no secret, and it’s clear both he and Meghan are thrilled to be back.
So with that said, we have no doubt Meghan has plenty more fashion moments to come as the games continue. Watch this space.
