During her first outing since giving birth, Meghan Markle debuted a new piece of jewellery on her ring finger: an eternity band Prince Harry gifted his wife as a first-year anniversary present. However, with all the excitement of seeing the Duchess of Sussex again, we completely missed the small changes she made to her engagement ring.
When you look closely at images from Trooping the Colour, you can see that Meghan’s engagement ring band has been changed from a thicker, all-gold band to one that is noticably thinner and diamond-studded:
Here’s what the ring looked like before:
While a closer look at baby Archie’s first photo call shows the ring had been changed before then (you can’t blame us for being too consumed with the adorable baby to notice) but it’s unclear exactly when the adjustments were made as the duchess opted not to wear her engagement band during her final months of her pregnancy, most likely because her fingers had swelled.
Meghan, who loves Australian jewellery designer Natalie Marie, is a fan of dainty designs, which may have been why she opted to make changes to her ring. It might also be so she can wear her wedding band and eternity ring more comfortably on the same finger.
Of designing the engagement ring, Prince Harry told the BBC, “The ring is obviously yellow gold because that’s Meghan’s favourite and the main stone itself I sourced from Botswana and the little diamonds either side are from my mother’s jewelllery collection, to make sure that she’s with us on this crazy journey together.”
