Meghan Markle isn’t usually one for classic pieces of jewellery—she tends to favour more bohemian designs, like this $50 ring and this Australian label—but there’s one piece she’s made an exception for.
We’re not talking about her exquisite engagement ring, but something she bought herself, long before she met Prince Harry: a Cartier ‘Tank Française’ timepiece.
According to 9Honey, the future princess treated herself to the expensive design (the yellow gold version retails for around $7,800 in Australia) as a reward for the success of Suits.
“When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season—which, at the time, felt like such a milestone—I totally splurged,” Markle told Hello.
“I had it engraved on the back, ‘To M.M. From M.M.’ and I plan to give it to my daughter one day,” she added.
The royal family has a long tradition of passing precious pieces of jewellery down through generations—Markle’s engagement ring features two diamonds from Princess Diana’s private collection, and the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, wears the sapphire engagement ring that once belonged to the late princess.
