On Tuesday night, Italian fashion house Max Mara took over the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles for their annual Women in Film celebration.
26-year-old actress Alexandra Shipp was named the 2018 Face of the Future, after her recent standout roles in X-Men: Apocalypse and Love, Simon.
“It’s about darn time in this day and age that there’s more and more representation, especially of women of colour, Shipp, the first African-American to ever receive the award, told THR.
“And also it’s this idea that women are supporting women. I want to continue that.” She added, “Women can help cultivate the next generation of women just through conversation.”
Shipp was 17 when she made her acting debut with a minor role in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel followed by television gigs on Switched at Birth, Awkward and Ray Donovan before she joined the movie cast of Straight Outta Compton and X-Men: Apocalypse.
Dressed in a black Max Mara pantsuit, Shipp celebrated with her Love, Simon co-star, Australian actress Katherine Langford. Langford, in turn, was joined by her fellow cast members from Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why, Anne Winter and Alisha Boe.
Inside the chateau’s garden party, hosted by Maria Giulia Maramotti, other attendees included Riverdale stars Cami Mendes and Madelaine Petsch, as well as Abigail Spencer, Lucy Hale, Erika Christensen and Aussie It girls Jessica Gomes and Ksenija Lukich.
