Stockholm was awash with stars this week as Max Mara hosted its folksy Resort collection in the famed Blue Hall, better known for its mega Nobel Prize banquets.
The majestic, hangar-sized space gave the models plenty of room to dazzle front-row A-listers including Lily Collins, Amy Adams, Demi Moore, Kiernan Shipka, Lily Reinhart and Nicky Hilton who sat beside her mum, Kathy.
“The embroidery’s exquisite and I want a few of the floral pieces in my wardrobe,” esteemed actor Amy Adams said of the whimsical Septum Flores collection.
Reimagining billowing tunics, ankle grazing skirts and elbow length capes, the collection lent a layer of striking modernity to traditional folk wear.
Creative director Ian Griffiths wowed the crowd, which also included Swedish powerhouse female leaders in government, business, science, and the arts, with a fairytale-inspired collection of floaty dresses, embellished tunics and floral prints reminiscent of a midsummer meadow.
“I wanted to do something different, but there’s also plenty for the core Max Mara consumer. And while it’s playful, there’s an unease there. After all, the Swedish fairytales can be brutal – kids end up being baked in pies! There’s definitely a darkness that I wanted to lean into.”
After the show, guests moved upstairs for a luxe candlelit gala dinner along two lengthy, flower-strewn tables, each holding 150 people. The dinner was held in the stunning Golden Hall covered in almost 18 million pieces of golden mosaics that describe Swedish history. Known as “elevated Swedish” fare, the traditional menu included creamy fish-roe soup and braised cod, asparagus and roast potatoes, followed by surprisingly delicious shots of local herring schnapps.
With the sky still light well past midnight due to Sweden’s famed “white nights”, celebs partied into the wee hours of the morning, before a fleet of limos whisked them back to the Grand Hotel, one of Sweden’s finest establishments. A midsummer nights’ dream to remember.
Max Mara’s Resort 24 collection will be available in store in November.
