We’ve barely made a dent in the new year, but somehow, actress and Australian sweetheart, Margot Robbie, has already managed to garner the prestigious title of the biggest fashion star of 2020.

A big call, certainly, but we have the evidence to back it up. Just in the last week alone, Robbie has had fashion hit after hit, during the promotional tour for her film, Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn). A big portion of her success is thanks to her long-term celebrity stylist, Kate Young, who also works with Hollywood heavy hitters Sienna Miller and Selena Gomez.
The week of sartorial excellence began when Robbie stepped out in a long-sleeved black mini dress by New York-based brand, Khaite. The sweetheart neckline and shirred detailing on the bodice and sleeves added an air of playfulness to her all-black look, which was complimented perfectly by a diamanté Alessandra Rich choker.
Although not adaptable just yet during the humid Australian summer, Young finished Margot’s look off with a pair of sheer stockings and hot pink pumps from The Attico.
To back it up, Margot opted for a fitted, knee-length tartan dress by Staud, paired with her blonde locks styled in her signature done-undone waves. Tartan seems to be the flavour of the month for Robbie, who also wore a tiered, tartan Chanel gown to the SAG awards a couple of weeks ago.
The duo then layered an artful peplum polka dot skirt from Dries Van Noten, over a black brocade, floor-length pencil skirt. To give the dramatic look a more relaxed feel, Young paired it back with a simple white tank – a potential red carpet trend for 2020.
When it comes to classic tailoring, designer Brandon Maxwell can do no wrong. Naturally, this pale salmon suit from the brand’s Spring 2020 collection that Margot donned was a perfect choice. Paired with a bold red lip and side-swept ponytail, the actress was a vision in this simple but impactful look.
Robbie then gave us the ultimate lesson in tonal dressing when she stepped out for a night out at Annabel’s in Mayfair, London. The actress’s timeless and polished look featured a surprisingly affordable, double-breasted camel coat from Mango, paired with a luxurious cream turtleneck dress from The Row, suede pointy mules from Pierre Hardy and a quilted Chanel box bag.
To finish, Margot wore 2020’s biggest red carpet trend, opera gloves, at the London premiere of Birds of Pray. The feather details and more formal rendition of the black and hot pink ensemble she wore at the beginning of the week. A daring, but successful look that we are totally obsessed with.
We certainly think we’ve made our case here. If these are the type of looks Margot Robbie is putting down and it’s not even the end of January yet, we can’t wait to see what the Hollywood star has in store for the rest of the year.
