MacGraw may be one of Australia’s newest fashion labels – bursting onto the scene just five years ago – but the duo behind the brand admit that it’s an idea that’s been brewing for decades.
“We decided we wanted to have our own fashion label when I was four years old and Beth was eight,” laughs Tess, who founded the label with sister Beth in 2012, after the pair ditched their jobs in public relations and fashion buying.
Since then, success has come dizzyingly fast.
Celebrities – from Karlie Kloss to Julianne Moore, Coco Rocha and Lorde – have been spotted in the label, which is known for its flirty, feminine aesthetic and electrifyingly fun fashion shows, while international accolades and awards have poured in. As a result, in just five short years, the Australian label is now stocked everywhere from Lane Crawford in Hong Kong to international luxury e-commerce site, Farfetch.
“The last 12 months have been surreal,” says Beth. “I’m still catching up with the pace of it all! But at the same time, we just want to keep pushing. If we can keep on this trajectory, there’s some pretty exciting things in the pipeline and I’m just thinking, how far we can take this?”
