Is it just us or is every brand and their friend staging a runway show for pre-fall? For those who might not have noticed, having a pre-fall show seems to be the new black, with December acting as a virtual extra fashion week. Between Chanel, Versace and Alexander Wang, New York was a runway come to life pre-Christmas, showing off the mid-season collections to plenty of fanfare. But one luxury European name decided to skip the bright lights and wow with their lookbook, instead.
Louis Vuitton today debuted its most celebrity-packed campaign ever, with 17 big names in film and TV appearing throughout the lookbook. Australia’s own Samara Weaving nabbed a spot, confirming her place in the fashion/Hollywood It crowd, as did favourites like Michelle Williams and Vuitton girl Alicia Vikander.
TV queens Thandie Newton, Sophie Turner and Riley Keough made an appearance, and Millenial cool girl Chloë Grace Moretz was front and centre in a dreamy autumnal floral dress and matching bag.
The collection is wholeheartedly cozy. Traditional plaids mix with supple leathers and loud animal prints — albeit by way of bike shorts and slip skirts — for a finished effect which draws on Nicolas Ghesquière’s recent penchant for a throwback. Building on his last spring/summer collection, the pre-fall offerings maintain impressive leather pieces, including Western-like boots and monogrammed bucket bags. Meant to evoke the seasonal change, the collection’s ‘city meets country’ aesthetic is definitely present — and we’re here for it.
