When one door closes, another door opens. That’s certainly the case for Louis Vuitton NYC. While the doors to the House’s flagship 5th Avenue store are closing for a multi-year renovation, they’re proud to be flinging open the doors to an expansive new temporary store that represents the American debut of Louis Vuitton as a cultural destination.
On 57th Street, NYC, you’ll find a new cornerstone of retail, culture and gastronomy. The largest Louis Vuitton space in the United Space offers an unparalleled experience, with a Louis Vuitton café-cum-library, bespoke chocolate shop and exclusive capsule collection housed within 5 floors of an iconic Art-Deco inspired building.
Paying homage to the space’s rich retail history, the entry opens into a soaring atrium that has been breathtakingly designed around an immersive installation of sculptures developed with OMA’s Shohei Shigematsu. Louis Vuitton’s signature Courrier Lozine 90 trunks form an artistic interpretation of the New York skyline, with a series of counterbalanced towers composed of the atelier’s historic stripes, classic Monogram canvas, white Damier, and a metallic Monogram.
The first floor of this exquisite space is dedicated to the House’s iconic leathergoods, with the women’s universe occupying the second floor and the men’s universe on the third. On the fourth floor, guests are welcomed into Le Café Luis Vuitton, a cultural destination concept that combines gastronomy with a wall-to-wall curation of books that offer a portal for global travels.
Following its success in Paris, Singapore and Shanghai, the New York City location is home to the American arrival of Le Chocolat Maxime Frédéric at Louis Vuitton. Handcrafted by the renowned chef pâtissier and his team in their Paris kitchens, specialty bars and chocolates represent a new expression of the Louis Vuitton artistry.
But while the House’s French heritage is on proud display, this is New York, after all. In its honour, Louis Vuitton at 57th Street is home to a unique capsule collection that pays homage to the city that never sleeps. Collector bags include the new Neverfull Inside Out in taxi yellow, the Speedy Soft with yellow lining and playful tags, and the Capucines paneled with the city’s skyscrapers. Iconography of the city streets, like a license plate bag charm, brings a sense of play to the collection.
For New Yorkers and travellers alike, 57th street is set to become a destination unto itself.
