Louis Vuitton’s autumn/winter 2024 collection looked to the past for inspiration. To mark his tenth anniversary at the helm of the French fashion house, Nicolas Ghesquière embarked on an introspective journey, diving into the archives to imagine the future.

The result? A futuristic kaleidoscope of soft neutrals, from icy blue and silver, to gentle bronze and beige, enhanced by a cacophony of shimmering textures.

Each look in the collection took showgoers on a visual tour through Ghesquière’s time at Louis Vuitton, with fond hints of past designs emanating through each new look. The logo trunk, for example – an iconic emblem of Louis Vuitton with a nearly 170-years rich history – was reimagined in abstract form via a graphic mini dress.

At the same time, shimmering sequins radiated a palpable energy, symbolising the brand’s continuing forward motion: “ A stylistic North Star that indicates the right direction and lights the way,” as the show notes described.

In another full circle moment, the autumn/winter collection was unveiled in the Cour Carrée at the Louvre, an iconic venue for Louis Vuitton shows and the exact place where Ghesquière presented his first collection exactly ten years ago. The set reflected this serendipitous return, with models walking down a stark white runway, with a futuristic metal globe ‘structure’ suspended above them, conceived by the artist Philippe Parreno in collaboration with film production designer James Chinlund.

Of course for a monumental show of this kind, the casting was fittingly spectacular. Emmy-nominated Squid Game actress Jung Hoyeon opened the show, while K-pop star Felix, a member of the band Stray Kids, made his runway debut.

And watching on from the front row were countless friends of the house, including Cate Blanchett, Emma Stone, Ana de Armas, and Gemma Chan.
