Our Favourite It-Girls Reveal The Bag They All Love

For 25 years, Lady Dior has epitomised effortless elegance.

Twenty-five years ago, Princess Diana was presented with Christian Dior’s “chouchou” (French for “favourite”) bag by Bernadette Chirac, then the First Lady of France. Having debuted the year before under the creative direction of Gianfranco Ferré, the bag was an ode to the heritage of Dior: the metallic letters were a nod to the lucky charms beloved by Christian himself, and the cannage quilting reminiscent of the Napoleon III chairs guests would sit on for his shows. After Diana frequently appeared in public with versions of the bag, it was named the Lady Dior in her honour.

In the quarter century since, it has proven the most chic of chameleons, transforming each season as it is reimagined in new colours, with innovative materials and inspired designs. The latest iteration is the Lady D-Lite, an entirely embroidered model designed by creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri for Dior’s spring-summer 2020 collection.

It is the bag for the every woman, and one that every woman should have. With a plethora of options to choose from, the only question is: which Lady are you?
