Kate looked elegant in the nude lace peplum frock, which she pared with a black sculptural headpiece and accessories, however royal watchers were left scratching their heads.

Fans of Kate’s style took to the internet to vent their frustration, left stumped as to who designed it and where they could get their hands on it.

It has since been revealed that the lace on the dress is by renowned French textile house Sophie Hallette – the same house that made the lace for the Duchess’s wedding dress and shoes – but the designer of the dress itself, remains a mystery.

Perhaps Kate chose the mystery look to keep the attention focused on commemorating the 70,000 British and Commonwealth soldiers who lost their lives in the Battle of the Somme 100 years ago.

The Duchess attended the memorial alongside Prince William, Prince Harry, Prince Charles and Prime Minister David Cameron.

After the service, the group took a tour of the visitor centre where they helped unveil a commemorative plate and chatted with local schoolchildren.
