Kate Middleton is known as being one of the thriftiest royals of them all. She loves to recycle an outfit and relies on the royal dressmaker instead of always turning to big-name designers. And, as we’ve learnt in the last few months, the Duchess of Cambridge is always ready to put her own spin on her outfits.
Case in point: the Duchess’s recent day out in London included not one but two clever wardrobe hacks.
Starting the day off at the the Henry Fawcett Children’s Centre, Middleton opted for a lavender silk Gucci blouse. Complete with a pussy bow, the blouse also has buttons down the front. But, as it turns out, the buttons are actually meant for the back. Giving the piece her own spin, the Duchess paired the blouse with a pair of Jigsaw trousers and a top handle bag from Aspinal. Overall, a very fashion-forward look for the royal, made even more so through her unique spin of wearing it backwards. Genius!
Later in the evening, the Duchess headed out to the 2019 Portrait Gala in a floral Alexander McQueen gown. We’d seen the dress before, in 2017 at the BAFTA Awards, but this time something was different. Instead of wearing the sleeves down on her arms, like she did in 2017, Kate wore them up on her shoulders. A simple switch, but a quick and easy change that changed the whole look of the gown.
Just like we learnt with her dressmaker’s impeccable tailoring, it seems Kate knows the secret to a successful outfit is all in the details.
