The Duchess of Cambridge spent the holidays in Sandringham, alongside Prince William and other members of the royal family and took the opportunity to invite her close friends to their country home for an early birthday bash.

However, it seems as though the royal commemorated the actual day in private at Buckingham Palace – and although we’re yet to find out exactly what her family bought her for her birthday, we do know she received a very conscious fashion gift from PETA.

The Duchess received a leather handbag from Parisian brand ASHOKA, made entirely of apple leather, which is of course both vegan and eco-friendly. PETA director, Elissa Allen explained to maire claire UK that PETA hope the gift “will encourage the Duchess to make conscious, animal-friendly choices in her wardrobe – and her many admirers to do the same.”

The brand’s ‘BRIGITTE apple vegan leather bag’, is still available to purchase, should you wish to be twinning with Kate. But in case you’re after something different, we’ve included a round-up of six truly vegan handbags that are just as trendy as they are cruelty-free!

1. The Stella Logo Shoulder Bag – Stella McCartney
