Kate Middleton is certainly one of the best dressed royals out there. And while her many Alexander McQueen coat dresses and extraordinary black tie gowns might be nice and all, Kate is really just a fan of being comfortable — and recycling clothing.
Meeting with children from the Scouts organisation in London this week, the Duchess of Cambridge cemented once and for all she has a serious formula when it comes to casual dressing, all it takes is two signature items.
A lover of both black denim skinny jeans and khaki jackets, the Duchess opted for the go-to formula once again, choosing a pair of Zara jeans (her favourites) and a Barbour Defence Jacket, both of which she’s worn a number of times before. It’s a styling duo which has had many a Middleton moment, most recently in January when the Duchess chose a khaki tweed jacket, her signature Zara jeans and a pair of Chloé combat boots — which she recycled for the Scouts tour this week.
Depending on the weather, the Duchess will pair the look with a simple shirt, a light knit or a more casual shoe. But the two items remain the same: khaki jacket and black jeans.
Apart from being seriously on-trend (hello, utilitarian jackets are having a major moment), Kate’s look is practical and stylish at the same time. Ensuring she looks polished yet approachable, the outfit is perfect for striking a balance between put together and polished. And, with khaki jackets and black jeans available at just about every high street store, it’s seriously affordable.
And Kate’s most recent appearance cemented just that, confirming that the Duchess loves an affordable buy — this time with a staple jumper, available in a huge range of colours. Available from J.Crew, Kate’s soft wool jumper comes in at just $89 — and, as demonstrated by the royal, looks great with jeans come autumn.
Ah, Kate, you’ve done it again.
