GUESS Celebrates Sustainability Milestone With A Sydney Soirée

The brand's sustainability report revealed game-changing successes.

Over the last few years, iconic brand GUESS has identified a series of sustainability commitments under its Vision Guess initiative. Now, the venerable fashion house has hosted guests at Sydney’s Chiswick restaurant to celebrate the launch of the 2020-2021 Vision GUESS global sustainability report, an insightful catalogue highlighting successes in the brand’s sustainability and social responsibility efforts.

In the leafy suburb of Woollahra, friends and thought-leaders were treated to breakfast and an organic market with displays information sessions where they could learn more about GUESS‘ sustainability efforts and the impacts that we can all have with our choices.

Committed to doing better for both the planet and people, GUESS has made remarkable strides in its long-term goals, including replacing virgin fabrics with recycled materials, promoting diversity within its global workforce, increasing sustainable denim use to 75%, and reducing supply chain carbon emissions by 30% by 2030.

The house has also utilised external auditors to evaluate its impact to be uphold accountability every step of the way.

And as the report has revealed, its efforts are working. Major findings from the report include an 18% increase in denim offered as part of the eco SMART collection, 12% of global materials sourced from environmentally-preferred materials, pay parity and 33% female representation on boards.

As part of the festivities, guests were invited to select fresh produce and flowers at the boutique market station.

The market was then followed by a breath work session hosted outdoors by Kate Kendall where guests could try the GUESS Eco activewear collection first-hand.

Where the brand will continue its sustainability journey is in sourcing sustainably-sourced cloths, employing water saving technology in garment production and dying, as well as exploring alternative fabrications that promote animal welfare.

To launch the initiative, GUESS’ CEO Carlos Alberini penned a message about the company’s commitment to the planet.  

We have entered a critical decade of action to regenerate environmental resources and address climate change,” Alberini writes. “VISION GUESS provides the roadmap for us to do our part in helping to solve some of the world’s most pressing issues.”

“We are very resilient and adaptable and we are committed to operating our business in a way that ensures this generation can experience this beautiful world as we know it—or better yet, as we dream it.”
