When you think of Gucci, eccentric, boundary-pushing and eye-catching all pop to mind, something designer Alessandro Michele takes very seriously. Unprepared to let us get used to Gucci’s wacky ways, Michele took things to the next level to open Milan Fashion Week’s Autumn Winter 2018 season.
From the location – a makeshift a waiting area meets operating room, to the runway – think dragons, body bags, and fake heads, it’s safe to say Gucci totally blew us away, yet again.
Oh, and the clothes? Influenced by a fusion of Japan, the Middle East and New York, and nodding to various time periods (think medieval body jewellery), Michele continued to push boundaries all while retaining what’s become Gucci’s signature style of logos, mismatched prints, oversized blazers, and florals with a twist.
Plus, the odd cult item or two, of course.

The location
“The concept reflects the work of a designer – the act of cutting, splicing and reconstructing materials and fabrics to create a new personality and identity with them,” Gucci explained on Instagram of the show’s location.
“The materials used are typical of an operating room and the environment around it: PVC on the walls and floors, fire doors with panic-bars, LED lamps, and plastic chairs like those in a waiting room.”
