If there was one element that dominated Saint Laurent’s Spring/Summer 2023, it was the nod to the brand’s iconic power-dressing that has dominated trends since the maison’s formation under Yves Saint Laurent in Paris, 1961.

In slinky, floor length, sheer jersey gowns, oversized coats with emphasised shoulder pads and hooded dresses, Australian model Gabriella Brooks embodied the signature sensual flair of Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello’s collection for the June 2023 issue of marie claire. It echoed what we saw on the magnificent runway.
Beneath the night’s sky and the glistening lights of the Eiffel Tower in the midst of Paris Fashion Week, the show encapsulated Parisian elegance with a star-studded front row including Zoë Kravitz, Amber Valletta, Laura Harrier, Blackpink’s Rosé, Kate Moss, Shalom Harlow, Jerry Hall, Juergen Teller, Hailey Bieber, and more.
The maison showcased ultra-soft suiting in luxe leathers, structured wool and pajama-like shapes, paired with oversized coats, floor-sweeping jackets and cutout jersey dresses and tops.
Dawning a new era of power dressing, Vaccarello’s vision was brought to life with the non-negotiable additions of excessive shoulder pads, sunglasses (worn at night), statement chunky earrings and glamorous Grace Jones-esque hoods to amp up the drama – no matter the occasion.

A strong 80s colour palette reigned supreme, with eggplant, chartreuse, mustard, burgundy, black with touches of metallic leopard beguiling the runway.
Striking silhouettes have always been synonymous with the house of Saint Laurent, from the Le Smoking suit in 1966 to the Mondrian dress in 1965 – and this season was no different. Bridging the luxury fashion house’s past with the present, the enticing collection turned to the archives, from the slinky chiffon dresses made in collaboration with Claude Lalanne in the late 1960s, to the labe’s soft fabric hooded “capuche” pieces of the haute couture collection of 1985.
