There’s no denying in recent years, the fashion world has become bounds and bounds more inclusive. From lingerie labels that cater to women of all shapes and sizes (we’re looking at you SavagexFenty) to labels that are recognising the need to include women ranging both size and colour into advertising and campaigns. But, there is another wave of inclusivity happening in the fashion industry that needs to be recognised.
In Australia alone, over 4.4 million people have some form of disability. That’s 1 in every 5 people.
That means, for a majority of Australians, getting dressed each day is not the simple task that some of us may take for granted. Some brands have decided to lead the way, creating their own labels and lines that specifically target the needs of those living with a disability – from individuals on the autism spectrum to amputees.
Below, socially conscious fashion brands paving the way to inclusion.
Tommy Adaptive
Tommy Hilfiger knows first-hand what it’s like trying to find clothing for those living with a disability, having children who suffer from autism. Inspired by his own family experiences, the brand made a commitment to rethinking the design process to uncover solutions for those living with a disability. Tommy Adaptive puts a new twist on tradition, delivering a modern style with innovative modifications that empower people and make dressing easier.
