It’s an undisputed fact that celebrities attend a lot of events.
From award ceremonies to film premieres, interviews, fashion events and parties, there’s always somewhere to be if you’re a star.
This means two things. One, eventually a star will step out at one of these events in a dress so good, it instantly becomes associated with them as one of their most iconic looks.
And two, occasionally—very occasionally!—another celebrity will step out at a different event and wear the exact same thing… only to be shuffled into Second Place.
From Jennifer Lopez’s signature green Versace gown being given a second run by Geri Halliwell, to model Veronica Webb trying her hand at Elizabeth Hurley’s safety-pin dress, these 10 iconic looks got two lives.
Jennifer Lopez’s Versace dress
It’s hard to think of a dress more iconic than Jennifer Lopez’s jungle-printed Versace gown. In fact, it’s so iconic, it was literally the reason Google Images was invented. But few know that Spice Girl Geri Halliwell also stepped out in it a month before JLo did.
Elizabeth Hurley’s Versace safety-pin dress
When you think of the name ‘Liz Hurley,’ you think of this Versace dress. But did you know it was also worn by model Veronica Webb in 1994?
Bella Hadid’s Roberto Cavalli dress
While it’s easily one of the most iconic Cannes Film Festival fashion moments in recent history, Bella Hadid wasn’t the first to wear this fiery red archive dress by Roberto Cavalli—and it wasn’t the first time it had appeared at the festival. Incidentally, the asymmetric gown was previously worn by Sharon Stone, when she attended a Cannes party in 2013 (looking equally incredible).
Kate Middleton’s Jenny Packham gown
As far as iconic movie looks go, Carrie Bradshaw’s ivory Vivienne Westwood gown is right up the top. Singer Nicola Roberts also gave it (albeit, a shorter version) a go in 2009.
Meghan Markle’s Roland Mouret dress
When she stepped out of the car at Cliveden House as ‘Ms Meghan Markle’ for the very last time, only to graduate to ‘Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’ the next morning, Meghan Markle wore this navy Roland Mouret dress. The waterfell dress with off-the-shoulder straps quickly became one of the most Googled and Pinterested looks.
Jennifer Garner also gave it a go, three months later.
Beyoncé’s Ashi Studio gown
When Beyoncé took to the Global Citizen Festival stage in South Africa in December 2018, her frothy fuchsia Ashi Studio gown quickly became the most talked about of her six different outfits. However, before the Lemonade chanteuse made it her own, Bollywood icon Deepika Padukone took it for a red carpet spin at the May 2018 Cannes Film Festival.
Jennifer Lopez’s Elie Saab princess moment
It’s one thing for someone else to wear your dress, it’s quite another to wear at the same event. But that’s what happened to Jennifer Lopez and Luciana Pedraza. Heralded as one of JLo’s most successful Oscars looks, Pedraza wore it in a peach tone.
Rihanna’s heart-shaped jacket
This heart-shaped jacket by Saint Laurent was one of Rihanna’s most viewed street-style moments. Kendall Jenner was also spotted wearing it, months later although she was happy to note, “Rihanna wore it best, for the record.”
Selena Gomez’s Dior little red dress
Said to be Gomez’s post-breakup ‘revenge’ dress, she wore this red mini Dior dress so well that many of us forgot that supermodel Irina Shayk also rocked the exact same dress.
