Over the weekend, it was reported that Emilia Wickstead, one of Kate Middletonโs favourite designers, claimed Meghan Markleโs wedding dress was copied from one of her designs.
In a damning article, the Daily Mail alleged the London-based designer said: โHer dress is identical to one of our dresses,โ before continuing on to criticise the fit of the dress and even Markleโs wedding hairstyle.
Naturally, people flocked to Clare Waight Kellerโs defence, saying Markleโs Givenchy gown was a classic design โ that it was the details on the veil and silk which made it original โ and noting that many of the French fashion houseโs most iconic wedding dresses over the years were of a similar style and shape.

Now, Wickstead has released a statement, denying ever making the comments about the royal wedding dress and saying she is โextremely saddenedโ by the reports.
โI am extremely saddened by commentary that has appeared in the press and on-line over the past few days,โ the post on Instagram reads.
โHer Royal Highness, the Duchess of Sussex looked absolutely beautiful on her wedding day and I have the utmost admiration and respect for her.
I do not think that her wedding dress was a copy of any of our designs. I have the greatest respect for Clare Waight Keller and the House of Givenchy โ a huge source of inspiration to me.
I wish Their Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex a wonderful, happy and love filled life together.โ
