EXCLUSIVE: Kate Middleton’s Favourite Designer Reveals This Season’s Biggest Trends

Emilia Wickstead gave us the 411 on what we can expect from her upcoming Fashion Week show.

Why did you decide to show your resort collection in Australia?

I am really excited to be showing on schedule during MBFWA. It is such a great opportunity to showcase my first high summer vacationwear collection during a resort-focused fashion week. Plus, I’m so excited to be partnering with MATCHESFASHION.COM, who have a strong presence in the market already.

I think this capsule collection will resonate well with the Australian clients because it is sophisticated and elegant. It’s really wearable and will give an injection of newness into the season. I also loved the idea of showcasing the collection down under, so close to home in New Zealand.

What can we expect from your upcoming show?

A collection that celebrates holiday attire – references are nostalgic and remind us of bygone days yet it’s elevated and modernised. We hope to transport people into our world.

What trends do you predict will be big this season?

Colour and fun!

Who would you love to dress?

I love dressing every woman! It has been an honour to dress influential woman in the public eye who endorse the brand so beautifully and in such a visually strong and impressive way. (Note: Kate Middleton is just one of those many clients).

Can you describe the Emilia Wickstead woman?

She is strong, sophisticated and in charge of her own identity. Her attire helps to empower her. I love to think about what lives my clientele lead in my designs and how they can encourage and make women feel beautiful and brilliant!

What’s the best piece of fashion advice you’ve been given?

Simplicity is sometimes the hardest thing to achieve. Along with a quote from Diana Vreeland – brilliant advice! “You gotta have style. It helps you get down the stairs. It helps you get up in the morning. It’s a way of life. Without it, you’re nobody. I’m not talking about lots of clothes.”

 What’s your career highlight?

My very first was dressing our First Lady at the time, Samantha Cameron, outside of number 10. Her dress was in the first collection I designed and made the first season I began my business. This was my first huge moment that I will never forget.
