Dior’s Fresh New Feminist T-Shirts Will Be Everywhere Soon

Get ahead

Christian Dior’s feminist T-shirts have become something of a staple for just about every fashion girl who knows their Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie from their Chiara Ferragni. Now, the heritage French brand are back again for another round of making statements, revealing three new slogan T-shirts during their autumn/winter ‘19/’20 show at Paris Fashion Week.

Designed by Dior’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, the T-shirts include a series of poignant statements, including ‘Sisterhood Is Powerful’, a reference to the famous American feminist and poet Robin Morgan’s 1970 book of the same name.

Just like the T-shirts before them, which were odes to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (“We should all be feminists”) and Linda Nochlin (“Why are there no great  women artists?”), this season is all about empowering the women that wear them — and in turn, the women they influence.

The three slogans, ‘Sisterhood Is Powerful’, ‘Sisterhood Is Global’ and ‘Sisterhood Is Forever’ are all taken from a trilogy of Morgan’s book titles, famous for their discussion of feminism in the 70s.

Drawing on the codes created by Christian Dior in 1950 — including his famous New Look — Grazia Chiuri’s collection is packed with references to famed shapes, including cinched waists and big skirts. Merged with references to Teddy Girls, the opposite sort of subculture which was abound during the era of the New Look, the collection was an ode to the feminine form in all its shapes and sizes.

Although we don’t have a confirmed price for the statement T-shirts just yet, previous T-shirts have retailed from $1050, so you’d better start saving now.
