If the mall was the epicentre of fashion in the 80’s, and the 90’s were all about the high street, the birth of online shopping defined the noughties – and it’s a trend that has been rising ever since.
Click for chic, because from today, you can have shoes, bags, dresses and jewels delivered directly to your door from Dior, with the luxury French brand unveiling an Australian e-boutique.
A digital accomplice to the house’s brick-and mortar offering, the shop carries women’s and men’s ready-to-wear (think classic, curvy Dior silhouettes and timeless tailoring), accessories, fine jewellery, timepieces and homewares.
To mark the launch, an array of online exclusives are on offer, including the Lady Dior in pink quilted leather — an It-bag beloved by Princess Diana —the Dior Cannage headband and the casual-cool Dior Book tote.
Of course, there was a time when the idea of purchasing a designer handbag online was revolutionary and even questionable, but these days the web is a mecca for high-fashion buys — only bolstered by the pandemic-induced spike in e-commerce.
According to Australia Post, almost nine million households across the country bought something online in 2021. Meanwhile, the rest of the world is now citing the ‘revenge shopping’ phenomenon – a surge in post-lockdown splurges and spending sprees.
So, perhaps fashion in the 2020s will be defined by digital luxury; investment pieces to click and collect, bright and brilliant adornments to add to cart, or a parcel of Dior waiting at one’s door.
