Iggy Azalea once said, ‘Walk a mile in these Louboutins’. However, with the brand’s latest collection, it seems you’ll be running, flying and vanquishing your rivals too.
Cult French designer Christian Louboutin has collaborated with Marvel to celebrate 100 years of Disney.
The new collection is one for all the comic-book fanatics out there (where the Marvel universe originated), featuring Marvel’s iconic ‘Infinity Stones’ as the jumping off point to create a unique selection of shoes and accessories to be worn by women, men and children.
For those who are not down with their comic book lore, the Infinity Stones are six gem-like objects that have immense power: the Power Stone, Space Stone, Mind Stone, Time Stone, Reality Stone and the Soul Stone. They’re what the Avengers travelled back in time to retrieve after the stones were used for evil.
It’s that very gem motif that studs a range of items in the collection, giving them a little twinkle as they move.
Louboutin also took inspiration from the black and silver ‘Moon Knight’, which influences the colour palette of the men’s shoes, and the first ever Marvel character Namor, reinventing Louboutin scales into an exclusive fish scale.
If you’re wondering how this collaboration was born, it turns out that Mr. Christian Louboutin himself is an authentic lover of comics and the Marvel universe. All the colour, vibrancy, creativity and unique storytelling in the Marvel world is something he has been a “lifelong admirer” of.
In return for the creation of these statement-making shoes, Marvel created a special-edition comic book about an Egyptian archaeologist – Loubi, based on Mr. Louboutin – who goes on a quest.
“Who never dreamed of becoming a Super Hero, really? And I’m lucky enough to be turning into one with none other than Marvel! I really like the fact that they didn’t try to picture me as a strong and muscular character, but went deeper in the understanding of my universe,” he said of the comic, which also features Black Widow, Shuri, the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers.
While there are a lot of designer collaborations coming thick and fast these days, this one feels personal for Mr. Louboutin. It is also sure to be a hit with Marvel’s mega fans, who turn out in droves to see each new comic-book-to-blockbuster-film adaptation and fill the hallowed halls of Comic-Con, a comic book convention, held in California each year.
