Bike shorts aren’t for everyone, that much we know. Despite the fact we’re sure you could pull them off, there’s something about the tightness, the sucking-in nature and the barely there cut of the style that doesn’t quite all add up. Add to that a light colour, say a white or beige, and it all gets a little too much. But problems like these don’t apply to Queen of Twitter Chrissy Teigen, who pulled off just that — white sparkly bike shorts — with serious impress this week.
Stepping out for a date night in Los Angeles with her newly-40 husband, John Legend, Teigen managed to make us all want to invest in a pair of white cycling shorts, pairing hers — which were sparkly, nonetheless — with a chic white waistcoat and equally as sparkly turtleneck.
The model, who recently opened up about gaining weight after her pregnancy, finished the look with a pair of PVC and silver Gianvito Rossi sandals and diamond earrings.
Apart from being a notoriously tricky trend to pull off, bike shorts have been one of the season’s biggest hits. Models like Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Hailey Baldwin have been championing the style, and versions of the cut have shown up on runways all over the world — most notably from the likes of Chanel, Fendi and Prada.
Now, with a post-Maldives tan and the right attitude to match, Teigen has proven once and for all the humble bike short can be evening wear — because being a boss doesn’t always mean wearing the trousers.
