Slung effortlessly over the shoulders of models in slinky black and glitzy gold gowns, faux-fur coats, tailored jackets and skinny leather pants, Celine’s Newspaper Bag – the latest addition to the Triomphe family – is a piece you could have sworn you’d seen before.
Perhaps on the arm of a socialite leaving Chateau Marmont in the 2000s, or maybe in Bianca Jagger’s grasp while at Studio 54 in its heyday. There are no wrong answers, and that was the intention of creative director Hedi Slimane.
A love letter to the indie sleaze of the aughts and the opulent glamour of the 1970s, Slimane’s winter 2023 Age of Indieness collection debuted to a star-studded front row at the oh-so-fitting Wiltern theatre in Los Angeles in December, with music by the White Stripes, Iggy Pop, and the Strokes establishing the mood for the ultimate rock’n’roll fashion extravaganza.
Bringing on the nostalgia in style, the house projected a new vision of rockstar dressing, with a luxurious undertone established via accessories and statement handbags. Displayed by model Kaia Gerber in the new campaign, the Newspaper Bag evolved from the maison’s structured Classique Triomphe bag in a soft, relaxed leather.
Completed with a gold shoulder chain and a vintage-look Triomphe logo – the house motif inspired by the Arc de Triomphe – the handbag fits all the essentials of an It-girl from any decade.
