Celine has officially debuted its highly-anticipated SS24 collection, ‘Tomboy’, and we officially want to go back to school.
Filmed in the iconic Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris and distributed digitally, the collection took its cues from androgyny – a style underpinning much of creative director Hedi Slimane’s body of work – and Y2K staples.
As models strolled through the aisles of the historic library (conveniently located across the road from Celine’s atelier), occasionally reaching for a Celine-branded book to peruse, it became clear that the class of Celine SS24 is taking lessons in the art of looking effortlessly cool.
Testament to this theme, the collection riffed on the kinds of things actual university students might have worn in the 2000s, from mini skirts, tracksuit co-ords and ugg-like slippers – a sorority girl’s staple – to the more preppy codes of tweed skirts and varsity jackets.
Then, the collection evolved into looks better suited for a Parisienne dance floor than the library, a sentiment fittingly reinforced by the show’s soundtrack, LCD SoundSystem’s ‘Too Much Love’, which the house described as “one of the most influential sounds in indie electronic music and club scenes.” Among them, a mini dress crafted entirely from gold tinsel, and a floor-length gown covered in blush-bronze sequins.
If that wasn’t enough to inspire your return to academia, many of the looks were punctuated by leather over-ear headphones embossed with Celine’s Triomphe emblem. Equal parts functional and stylish, these were born out of a collaboration between the house and audio brand Master & Dynamic, and we predict they will be the most sought-after accessory of the coming months, whether you’re studying or not.
