As much as we’d like to, we’re not usually in a position to steal the style of our favourite stars on the red carpet – sadly, the budget doesn’t quite stretch to couture gowns costing upwards of $200,000.
So kudos to Bryce Dallas Howard for wearing a divine Topshop dress that she bought herself to the Critics’ Choice Awards. The floor-length chartreuse design with black trim looked completely in step amid a sea of red carpet couture, but cost Howard just $US240 ($AUD320).
The star is making a habit of shopping for her own red carpet gowns, eschewing the services of a stylist in favour of forking out herself. She bought her own Jenny Packham dress for the 2016 Golden Globes and a Balmain Dress for last year’s Critics’ Choice Awards.
This year, however, she chose to buy a more budget-friendly option for the occasion. “It’s great, it’s comfortable,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “It’s flowy, which is good for this time of year – the holiday season.”
Howard explained her unconventional approach to red carpet dressing to People earlier in the year, attributing it to her figure. “When you’re not ‘sample’ size, or when you don’t have a direct relationship with a designer, or if you don’t have a lot of notice, those types of size six dresses just aren’t that available that much,” she says.
