We know what you’re thinking: ‘Wait, did Birkenstocks go out of fashion?’ After their resurgence in 2014, when former Celine creative director Phoebe Philo debuted them on the runway, many – perhaps you included – have continued to wear the German shoe brand, specifically its Arizona range, year upon year. But late 2018, when the ugly shoe fashion trend started well and truly taking off (Tevas, here’s looking at you), Birkenstock sandals got their time in the sun once again – and, with a staggering 25 million pairs selling last year alone, it looks like they’re here to stay.
With updated colourways – we’re talking pretty much any hue you can think of – and textures such as suede and croc, Birkenstocks have come out of the gate swinging, and the fashion crowd is taking notice.
