While not technically a film about fashion, there’s no disputing that Lady Gaga is a modern style queen, whether she’s in denim cut-offs rehearsing, or attending the Oscars in a couture gown. Clueless
The epitome of ’90s dressing, popular girl Cher Horowitz and her posse are a treasure trove of outfit inspiration for current-day fashionistas. From her thigh-high socks to her plaid two-sets and that memorable red dress, Alicia Silverstone’s costumes continue to dictate trends to this day.
Grace Of Monaco
While it didn’t exactly get glowing reviews, Nicole Kidman’s portrayal of eternal icon Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco, was possibly one of the most elegant on-screen turns in recent memory. Jackie
Although a decidedly tragic film of Jackie Kennedy grieving her late husband after his assassination, this Oscar-nominated film also pays tribute to the U.S. First Lady’s game-changing dress sense.
Café Society
Woody Allen’s portrait of 1930s Hollywood has a stellar cast (Kristen Stewart, Blake Lively and Steve Carell, to name a few) but it also boasts costumes that are a respectful nod to that era’s playful style. From Stewart in cropped shirts and pencil with a chin-length bob, to Lively as a full-blown screen siren in a glimmering gold evening dress, there are plenty of fashion moments to enjoy.
Allied
This spy movie set during World War Two might seem likely an unlikely source of fashion wisdom if not for the ever-elegant Marion Cotillard. In her role as double-dealing operative, Cotillard dons floor-length silk gowns, tailored linen suits and delicate retro slip dresses. It’s almost enough to distract you from the gripping action (and her co-star Brad Pitt, of course).
Sex and the City: The Movie
A film so unapologetic about its love for fashion that the clothing is practically the fifth lead character, the first SATC film allowed legendary stylist Patricia Field to really flex her creative muscle. And flex she did. Who could ever forget Carrie Bradshaw’s wedding dress montage? Iconic.
