With holiday season approaching, you’re probably making your plans for events: what to gift, what to eat, what to wear.
Depending on your schedule, you could be planning for multiple events: the work party, family Christmas, New Years Eve – and each potentially has its own dress code.
For those who need style advice, we’ve fortunately tapped a supreme source: Maria Giulia the Global Brand Ambassador for Max Mara.
Maria (whose full name is Maria Giulia Prezioso Germanetti Maramotti) is the third generation of her family to be involved in Max Mara, which was founded by Achille Maramotti in 1951. Over 70 years later, the luxury brand remains a leader in elegant-casual womenswear.
Marie claire Australia sat down with Maria Giulia for her advice on perfect holiday style.
What Is Your Go To Party Look?
Maria Giulia says her go-to party look is usually a black tuxedo or a strapless long or short gown. The brief, however, is to bring something slightly unexpected to the table.
“I think that holiday style is about festiveness, hence always trying to put on some pieces which are unexpected. I like to sometimes go for a total white look or black with sparkly dresses or separates, definitely with a touch of glamour!” she tells marie claire.
“Probably holidays bring out a more elegant take, so I am not afraid to put on gowns and dresses which I don’t usually wear during the year.”
What To Wear To A Work Party
“For me The work party is always about the tuxedo, whereas a social party is about being a bit more fun and creative, putting on a more sparkling dress,” Maria Giulia adds.
The tuxedo is almost a camp take on suited office wear, so glam it up with something a little extra!

What To Wear To A Christmas Lunch
Contrary to a party look, a holiday lunch look “should be festive but not too sparkly,” according to Maria Giulia.
“Perhaps a nice, cosy sweater with something unexpected underneath that you can pull off in case the weather turns out to be too hot. A nice pair of flats is the perfect final touch.”
Given the weather is warm in Australia, try a flowy maxi dress.

What To Wear For New Year’s Eve
Finally for those New Year’s Eve party plans, Maria Giulia recommends an “elegant and sophisticated night look”.
Depending on the type of affair, an elegant maxi dress could fit the bill. Or if it’s more of a party, why not try something short with pizazz?
