Girls on the boysโ runways have been de rigueur since Gucci and Prada started throwing a few resort womenswear looks into the traditional menswear mix a few seasons back. Givenchy takes this to greater heights โ by showing couture gowns alongside its menโs collection.
Givenchy couture is a celeb fave. Kim Kardashian, Madonna, Beyoncรฉ and Michelle Obama are all fans, and yet the ultra-cool Paris house has made a habit of skipping Couture Week (which for the Autumn โ17 season begins in Paris on July 3rd).
Instead, designer Riccardo Tisci opted to sneak 13 couture looks onto his menswear Spring โ17 runway on Friday.
The clothes combined military styling โ camo prints, utility pockets, zip-on gun holster-style bags โ with spiritual motifs: think Eye of Providence motifs and cloudy sky prints. โMy boys were like happy warriors,โ Tisci told US Vogue.
His girls though (however happy they may be on the inside) were way too fierce to smile.
Natalia Vodianova was first out in a ruffled white strapless column dress. New face of the brand Bella Hadid looked exquisitely glum in sparkling black beading. And Kendall Jenner modeled a one-shouldered white gown over slouchy black pants, accessorised with a picture perfect scowl.
And while all eyes were on the runway, we couldnโt help but notice one interesting detail (at least for Australians!). Kendall Jenner exited the show in a Bec & Bridge slip. The bad news? You canโt buy it just yet. But stay tunedโฆ
