A new collection from online retail giant ASOS is inspired by the late Princess Diana’s iconic streetwear looks.

The designer of the collection is Sharmadean Reid, best known as founder of cool-girl nail brand Wah Nails, but who also has a background in fashion working with Nicola Formichetti as well as working as a stylist and consultant. Reid is also a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her services to the nail and beauty industry.

“She always loved bomber jackets,” Ried tells Dazed. “She actually dressed quite American preppy, she even wore Harvard jumpers.

“I didn’t want to do [the collection] until I had an idea, and then I had just moved to West London and I felt like a real West London mum, like ‘ah I feel a bit like Princess Diana, dropping the kids off to school.’

“I thought: that’s a good idea for a collection, an East London girl moving to West London.”

The ready-to-wear collection features includes varsity jackets, pearl chokers, pinstriped suits, a collared halter neck and a hot-pink mini dress – one of the Princess’ favourite hues.

Reid describes the line as “half uptown, half downtown.”

Available online, the collection starts at $12 for earrings to $250 for a pinstripe suit.

The Duchess of Cambridge loves high-street fashion so we wonder if we’ll see her in any of these?
