It was the swimwear label on everyone’s lips this Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, and Aqua Blu really didn’t let us down. Aptly named Eden, resort 2020 was all about prints, making a statement and retaining the brand’s true DNA; punchy colours, plenty of character and shapes that made you think twice about that boring old one piece.
Straight from the brainchild of Kristian Chase, Aqua Blu’s runway was packed with motion, colour and diversity. From a range of ages (there was even a family moment, complete with two adorable children in head-to-toe Aqua Blu) to a range of sizes, the collection was made to suit everyone with every body.
“I feel at times that swim becomes repetitive, as it is the same shapes over and over. My line focuses on pushing the tradition bounds of swimwear. Effortless yet statement one pieces with exclusively designed fabrics and printing techniques make the label stand out from the crowd. Life is too short to wear nude hues!” Chase told us before the show. And he’s right. The Aqua Blu woman (or man, or child) has no time for neutrals. Or, when they do, it’s got a hint of something extra.
For Chase, this collection was all about expanding on his signatures — the one pieces.
“My one pieces are my signature. They are unique and always turn heads. Placement prints paired with unique cuts makes you think about your beach look as a whole rather then just think bikini or a bandeau one piece,” he said, confirming the ready-to-wear elements of the collection, including floaty beach dresses and brightly-hued kaftans, are here to stay.
“My resort pieces combine style with substance. Think flowy goddess vibes with vid colours and prints with the comfort of silk for all those balmy nights.”
So, what’s next for Chase and his army of swim-clad followers? World domination, of course.
“This year makes the 19 years on the market for us and we are very excited to take everyone on this journey as we will return to Miami Swim Week, London Fashion Week, Paris Resort week and several other runways, stay tuned!”
