As the daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, Apple Martin has largely veered away from the public scrutiny of her parents orbit. That was, until recently, when the 20-year-old officially stepped into the spotlight, taking her place as an honorary debutante at Le Bal des Débutantes in Paris.
Le Bal has previously debuted a roster of celebrity offspring – including Lily Collins, Scout Willis, Margaret Qualley, and Ava Philippe – who each joined the likes of royalty and high-society attendees at the invitation-only event that’s straight out of a fairy tale.
Accompanied on the night by her parents, brother Moses and grandmother Blyth Danner, Apple Martin debutante appearance was marked alongside fellow honorary debutante Lucia Ponti – the granddaughter of Sophia Loren.
Though rooted in tradition, Le Bal of today prides itself on its measure of modernity, welcoming young women from around the world, in what it deems as an empowering celebration.
But despite historical images of debutante balls conjuring up wall-to-wall stiff white dresses and elbow-length gloves, its contemporary interpretation is heavily imbued with the expectation of sartorial opulence.
Case in point, Apple Martin’s dreamy Valentino Haute Couture gown, custom-made by creative director Alessandro Michele himself, of course.
The strapless gown is made from ciel bleu silk plissé chiffon and features a structured bodice overlayed with plissé detailing formed the standout Apple Martin debutante look that reportedly took over 750 hours to design.
Cinched at the waist with a black silk bow, the haute couture creation wasn’t the only Valentino look in the room that night – with Michele also responsible for outfits worn by the whole family in a show of sartorial solidarity.
A modern family evening, indeed.
