You know who can spell Gabbana? Anne Hathaway, that’s who.
The Devil Wears Prada alum has got the internet talking after jumping (or maybe clacking?) into 2022 with the style uncannily synonymous with one of her most iconic characters—Andy Sachs.
Hathaway, who is currently ramping up the press on her latest series, WeCrashed, has been spotted several times in the last two months with newly cut bangs and a wardrobe which we can only describe as a whole Andy Sachs mood.
But before we delve into her recent looks, let’s take a moment to re-familiarise ourselves with Sachs’ brand (post Nigel’s “you only deign to work” lecture, that is). She’s cool, she’s a little edgy (though not quite to the extent of her colleague, Emily), and she clearly loves incorporating different textures into her look, preferably in black. Her hair is straightened and her bangs just skim her brows.
Thus, our favourite Harry Potter manuscript leaking, Chanel boot-wearing queen in a snapshot—circa 2006.
Fast-forward to February 2022, Hathaway, 39, stepped out for her first major event of the year at The Music Man‘s opening night on Broadway, NYC. Wearing a chic black jumpsuit with a black and white Valetino coat thrown effortlessly across her shoulders, Hathaway’s vibrant charisma elevated the whole look—but the real Sachs-esque clincher was in her newly debuted ’70s fringe.
We could basically hear the ringtone blaring from her pocket as a call from Miranda beckoned her back to the Runway offices mid-pose.
Then came the moment we never actually knew we were waiting for—Hathaway stepped out at Milan Fashion Week to attend the Giorgio Armani show wearing a top to toe black outfit by the designer.
The ensemble in itself was chic enough, but Hathaway’s hair once again topped it off. She styled it in a swept back voluminous 60’s style ‘do fastened with a headband, and she finished the look with some black oversized sunglasses.
It’s giving Jackie Kennedy mixed with Audrey Hepburn mixed with Andy Sachs as she takes over Miranda as editor-in-chief at Runway—and we’re here for it.
Of course, the streak continued.
In March, Hathaway was spotted out and about in New York City wearing a long black coat, leather pants and a delicate neck scarf which lifted the look from NYC Cool Girl to NYC Cool Girl who may or may not be jetting off to Paris with Miranda in T-minus 30 minutes.
And most recently, Hathaway attended the red carpet premiere for WeWork in Austin, Texas this week wearing a stunning silver cut-out dress by Versace.
The actor was literally glowing in the slinky gown, but ever effortless, she kept the look simple with minimal makeup and subtle accessories—we’re picturing Nigel’s face right now and we can affirm that he likes what he sees.
We also have no doubt Hathaway isn’t done yet. Much like the return of early 2000s fashion, it appears Hathaway is giving us her own spin on the infamous cycle of style by embodying the very essence of Andy Sachs’ glow-up glamour from 2006.
Bring on the rest.
