As Australia’s current queen of party dresses, it makes sense that Alice McCall’s resort 2020 show was all about having fun. It was a collection which centred on remembering the good times; the moments that change your life — and the outfits that go with them.
McCall’s signature breathe of whimsy was applied liberally, while she held back on traditional florals to make way for sparkle — and plenty of it. From a bright feather-lined pyjama set to a sheer, chainmail-esque twist-front dress, McCall played with glitter and sparkle like she was born for it. Which she sort of was.
A purple lurex dress with tiered ruffle sleeves and detailing was a personal favourite — which, seen sashaying (there really is no other word) down the runway, was quite the celebratory sight. Add to this the touch of hair bling by way of glitzy clips and you had the perfect late-night moment — albeit at 10 o’clock in the morning.
Cutesy two-pieces were made all the better by the addition of bandana head scarfs; McCall’s way of bringing prairie girl style to the street (of the dance floor). Made for the woman who loves to dress up, wants to remember the important moments and strives to look her best past dark, McCall’s celestial, punchy, colour-packed collection had it all. And, save for a few tulle tiered numbers, was a strong take on what the designer does best: make women feel fun.
